What is Sagging and Loose Skin?

Sagging and loose skin is commonly part of the natural aging process. The skin tends to droop and sag as it loses its integrity, leading to many unwanted cosmetic changes to the face and body. Although this condition is most common in older age groups, there are many factors that can accelerate the process such as diet, lifestyle, and genetics. The good news however, is that there are so many effective treatments to prevent and reverse the process that are both effective and long lasting.

What causes Sagging, Loose, and Aging Skin?

As we get older, many changes happen in our body. Most notably, we see a steep decline in collagen production, fat tissues tend to lose their volume, our muscles weaken all over our body, our bone density decreases, and more. All of these play a part in the drooping and sagging of skin with age! Less collagen in the skin causes the skin to lose its elasticity. Lower fat volume leads to drooping of fat pads around our body, including the face. Weaker muscles can lead to looser tissues, and it can even change our posture which can contribute to skin changes over time. The list goes on and on, but the moral of the story is that skin sagging and looseness is simply a part of life for most of us. But the story doesn’t have to end there!

What treatments are available for Sagging, Loose, and Aging Skin?

We offer many of the most effective solutions to sagging, loose, and aging skin.

Wrinkle Relaxers / Botox

A common result of loose, sagging, and aging skin is wrinkling. Wrinkle relaxers can be used to selectively target these areas and smooth out the wrinkles. Botox for example uses botulinum toxin to mildly and temporarily paralyze the muscles beneath wrinkled areas. As those muscles relax and pull less tightly on the skin, the wrinkles often dissipate and the skin is smoothened out once again.

Luminous IPL

The Luminous IPL system also makes a great treatment for loose, sagging, and aging skin. The skin can be damaged through years of exposure to the sun’s damaging UV rays causing the skin to lose its youthfulness. By rejuvenating the skin and stimulating new healthier tissue while boosting collagen production, the skin can be significantly tightened and refreshed.

This procedure is primarily used for the reversal of sun damage and skin rejuvenation, but it has the added benefit of collagen stimulation with each treatment that can lead to  long-lasting skin reinvigoration.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are injectable gels that are specially-formulated to increase volume in a given treatment area. Because aging, sagging skin usually suffers from volume loss leading to droopy facial structures, wrinkles and lines, dermal fillers can utilize their unique hyaluronic acid solution to increase hydration in these areas, smoothing out wrinkles and restoring volume. They also encourage the skin to produce collagen, leading to long-lasting, increased structural support!

Protege Radio Frequency

Protege Radio Frequency is a skin tightening treatment that works via the stimulation of collagen production. It uses radiofrequency waves that are fine-tuned to target the deep layers of the skin, heating them to the prime temperature for collagen production. The result is refreshed, firm skin rich with new collagen.

Sagging, Loose, and Aging Skin Summary

Our skin, fat, bone, and muscle tissues tend to lose their strength and structure with age as collagen is produced less and many other changes to our tissues occur. This tends to lead to the sagging and drooping of our skin over time. Diet, Lifestyle, Genetics, etc. can also contribute to the acceleration of this process, causing some to experience the aging skin effects at varying ages. Luckily from skin rejuvenation procedures with intense pulsed light with added benefit of collagen stimulation and skin tightening with radiofrequency, to injections like botox and/or dermal fillers, many treatments are available. Any or all of these procedures help restore the firmness and smoothness of your skin, bringing youth and vitality back into your facial profile.
