Botox and Filler are the ultimate dynamic duo in the world of aesthetics. They both do very different things however, when used in conjunction, they work together to give us a smoother, lifted, younger complexion. We are here to answer some common questions about what Botox and Filler do, how they are different, and how they seamlessly work together to correct aging in the face.

Botox is used for various cosmetic treatments due to its powerful effect on smoothing facial wrinkles and lines. The active component in Botox is Botulinum Toxin, Type A, which is a neurotoxin that relaxes the muscles responsible for creating wrinkles- When the muscle is relaxed, it prevents wrinkles from forming and softens lines in the skin. There are so many different areas of the face where Botox is used to smooth lines and wrinkles such as the forehead, crow's feet, under-eye wrinkles, corners of the mouth, chin, marionette lines and so much more. Botox can also help with TMJ, migraines, and contouring in areas of the body such as the calf and trapezius muscles.

Unlike Botox, Filler does not aid in muscle relaxation. Filler is used to add volume to the face, contour, and stimulate collagen. The main component in Fillers is Hyaluronic Acid which plumps and hydrates the skin. Filler is commonly used in areas on the face where we need to add volume to achieve a contoured, lifted look- these areas include the cheeks, jawline, temples, nasolabial folds, chin, lips, and more! Filler can soften more severe folds in the face that occur due to skin laxity and loss of volume.

Besides their scientific makeup and what they are used for, Botox and Filler also differ in longevity. Botox typically lasts three to four months while Filler can last anywhere from one to five years. Receiving Botox treatments three to four times per year will ensure that muscle movements in the face do not form lines and wrinkles. Filler treatments are recommended every one to five years to maintain volume and collagen production as we age. When Botox and Filler are administered at the same time, they work to increase the longevity of the other.

Botox and Filler are completely different anti-aging cosmetic treatments because they have different scientific makeup, address separate concerns, and have different longevity. As we age, it is important to use Botox and Filler together to simultaneously address multiple areas of the face at once. Combining Botox and Filler treatments will result in a non-surgical facelift that will provide a refreshed, youthful, and natural look.

Are Dermal Fillers Toxic?

Dr. Brandish, an expert injector with over 20 years of experience, weighs in on the negativity and myths surrounding Dermal Fillers.

We have noticed a lot of negativity surrounding Dermal Fillers lately; Several posts, videos, and podcasts circulating the internet and social media have significantly downplayed Dermal Fillers and their benefits. This has led to questions such as, Are Fillers toxic? What are the benefits? Is Filler worth the investment?

Expert injector Dr. Brandish is here to answer your questions- After over 20 years of specializing in nonsurgical facelifts, she wants to assure you that Filler is one of the most successful and safest options for treating an aging face.

Are Fillers toxic?

Fillers are not toxic. Most Dermal Fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid which naturally occurs within our body! The purpose of Hyaluronic Acid in the body is to retain moisture in the skin and protect our joints. It also plays a crucial role in wound healing by controlling inflammation and redirecting blood flow to damaged tissue. When Hyaluronic Acid Fillers are injected under the skin, our body recognizes them as a naturally occurring substance allowing the Filler to blend safely and effortlessly under the skin.

What are the benefits of Filler treatments?

After age 20, our collagen production significantly decreases. The older we get, we also experience compounding facial fat and bone loss- This is why we notice sagging, deep wrinkles, and volume loss in the face. Filler addresses all of these issues by adding natural volume and lift. Filler also stimulates collagen and hydrates the skin which is crucial in defying gravity and slowing the aging process.

Are Fillers worth the investment?

With advancements in technology, Filler can last anywhere from 2-5 years! When you initially receive Fillers, there may be some mild swelling or bruising for a few days otherwise, there is no downtime and you can get back to life as normal immediately after treatment. When patients opt for a surgical facelift, not only are they making more of a monetary investment but many patients experience weeks of downtime and healing that can be painful and a hindrance to everyday life. When Filler is administered by a skilled physician, you not only look younger but you feel confident and beautiful- that is priceless!

Whether you have received Filler in the past or are interested in exploring this option in the future, we want to make sure that you can make the most educated decision and do what is best for you on your aging journey!
